“Skin cancer is real! Especially in Australia,” Clarke wrote. “A friendly reminder to get your skin checked. Prevention is better than cure but in my case, regular check-ups and early detection is key. So grateful that (his doctor) got it early.”

It is not the first time Clarke has gone public with his health battles. In 2023, he shared an image from a hospital bed with the caption “Skin cancer Friday… Go get checked please.”

A year earlier, in March 2022, he had surgery to remove a cancer from his forehead, while he also underwent treatment for a basal cell carcinoma on his chest last year.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2023, Clarke attributed his recurring problems to long hours spent in the sun during his playing days. “Imagine fielding all day in India, out there for eight hours in the sun, a lot of the guys are wearing the baggy green cap so you are not protecting your ears or your face. You’ve got short-sleeved shirts so your arms and the tops of your hands (are exposed),” he said.

Clarke enjoyed an illustrious career, playing 115 Tests and 245 ODIs for Australia. He captained the national side in 74 Tests and 139 ODIs, famously leading them to a 5-0 Ashes whitewash in 2013-14 and the 2015 ICC World Cup title. In 2013, he was honoured as both ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year.
